Specialization of Study |
The specialization is designed so that you can
devote their required non-contact study hours
toward developing a specific area of interest
that you are passionate about so that when you
leave the program you will have developed 1) the
ability to focus on a specific area within the
ever evolving and expanding field of yoga and 2)
a specific vocabulary of postures and practices
from which you can expand your knowledge base.
The specialization will enable you to teach a
class in your chosen subject area within a few
months of completing the program.
Each student will write and submit a paper
outlining the proposed area of specialization.
You will submit your proposal at session five.
For example, you may be interested in creating a
kid’s yoga program, working with those over age
65, those with repetitive stress injuries or
teaching meditation. Your proposal will be
reviewed and you and I will agree on an
individually tailored course of action to take
in order for you to learn as much as possible
about your proposed field of interest, including
books you will read and classes you will take by
teachers who specialize in the area in which you
are interested.
You will write and submit an entire class plan
based on your subject area. I will read it,
return it with suggestions and you will resubmit
a final paper. On the final day of class you
will teach part of the class you have developed
to all the participants in the Joy of Yoga
Teacher Training Program.
