Welcome to February!
|
|
As my four year old son spontaneously
proclaimed last week, ‘Mommy, you can never run out of love.’
Traditionally this is the month where we celebrate romantic
love. In the yoga tradition our interest in love goes beyond
romance to love of every person we come into contact with.
Challenging you say? Yep! But worth the effort! Practicing
loving brings our best selves forward in every interaction we
have. They feel good, and we feel good and the world is a better
place.
All of Reformation’s programs, workshops and retreats are
designed to make you healthier and happier. When you take a
workshop or do a class, remember the benefit it brings to you
but also to everyone around you. You are more inspired to share
your happiness with others. Recent scientific studies indicate
that happiness significantly improves the dispositions of those
we come into contact with. The world needs your laughter, your
inspiration, and your love! There is no time like the present –
which is of course, what yoga is all about!
See you on the mat! Jennifer Prugh, Yoga Instructor |

Yoga on the mat: Metta Loving Kindness Meditation
In the Buddhist tradition, practicing Metta, meaning loving kindness, develops our capacity to feel love for anyone we come into contact with. Seated, with eyes closed, spend a handful of breaths in appreciation for your own efforts and everything that you are. Next, choose someone in your life that is easy for you to feel love and send love to them. Feel in your body how much love you have for this person. Next, pick someone in your life that generally evokes no emotional response one way or another, the guy who bags your groceries, the woman who walks her dog by your house. Feel your love for that person. If you can’t feel love, try to feel appreciation or compassion for their joys, concerns, and struggles. Finally, choose someone that challenges you, that you might have a difficult time interacting with. See if you can feel love for that person. Appreciate their hopes, their fears, their challenges. When you open your eyes continue to focus your attention upon respecting appreciating, and even loving each person you come into contact with.

Practice Random Acts of Kindness
All of us fall into patterns of interacting with the world. We assume we are capable of just so much. Standing on one’s head is a metaphor for turning changing our perspective. If it is time for change or a change of mind, every day in February try doing something unexpectedly kind for yourself, for someone you love, for someone you don’t know, or someone you are sure you don’t love. Express yourself in ways that are unfamiliar. As an experiment, pay other peoples’ bridge tolls, open doors for people, see just how kind you can be. Turn your life and your way of being upside down and find out you are capable of far more than you know! Report back with your stories and observations by sending me an email:
