Pilates Instructor Certification Program

PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR
Nora St. John, L.Ac., has been teaching Pilates-based rehabilitation and conditioning techniques at Saint Francis Memorial Hospital's Center for Sports Medicine for the past 10 years.  She has studied the work of Joseph Pilates with Eve Gentry and Michele Larsson, Carola Trier, Romana Krzynowska, Alan Herdman and Jean-Claude West.  She is certified through Core Dynamics in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  Prior to teaching, Nora was a professional modern dancer for 10 years.  She is also a licensed acupuncturist and a certified massage therapist.

THE PROGRAM
This five-month course will teach you the full repertoire of exercises designed by Joseph Pilates as well as the innovations developed at St. Francis Hospital's Dance Medicine Division.

The curriculum includes a thorough introduction to anatomy, kinesiology and biomechanics as well as teaching all of the standard exercises on the Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, Ladder Barrel and accessory pieces.  The emphasis of the training will be on the understanding following:

·  Proper body alignment
·  Movement efficiency
·  Use of the breath
·  The purpose of the exercise
·  Variations for individual needs
·  Creativity in Program Design

Each day except for the anatomy weekend, will include a warm-up on the mat or the reformer, a short lecture, instruction in the exercises and time to practice what you've learned.  All class materials will be provided including detailed descriptions of all exercises.

PRE-REQUISITES
A minimum of 60 hours of personal training on the Pilates Apparatus and/or one year of experience teaching movement, dance, yoga or personal training is required.

CERTIFICATION


Certificate will be awarded upon completion of required hours and successful completion of all examinations.  These hours are to be completed within 18 months following the course session.  The following is a breakdown of required hours:

112 — Coursework
  50 — Personal Sessions
  50 — Observation
  50 — Assistant Teaching
100 — Student Teaching
362 — TOTAL
